NU Hall of Famer dies of cancer at 74

On Feb. 9, Northeastern alumnus and East Boston native Major General Eugene Renzi, ret. US Army, died of cancer at his home in North Springfield, Va. at the age of 74. Renzi was a member of the class of 1957.
In his senior year with the Huskies, he was made captain of the football team and received First Team All-American honors.
In track and field, he was a two-time Greater Boston League shot put champion. Renzi also set records for the javelin on multiple occasions.
He was inducted into the Northeastern Athletics Hall of fame in 1985 for his achievements in football and track.
He is survived by five children, 23 grandchildren, two brothers and long time companion, Stephanie Gaskill.
He will be buried in a full military funeral in Arlington National Cemetery today.
